Kathie Snow
Kathie’s interest in disability issues began in 1987 when her son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of four months. At first she found relief in the world of services, interventions, and expert opinions— Disability World. But within a year she began to question the conventional wisdom of Disability World, and her participation in the Texas Partners in Policymaking leadership program brought her in contact with adults with disabilities and validated her belief that her son and other people with disabilities could and should enjoy full, rich lives. She wrote an article on the importance of using person-first language and then began speaking and training on disability issues. She created the book Disability is Natural and the website, videos, and email newsletters that followed.
